Pre-Market-Snapshot- Jan 3 , 2023

  Global markets traded mixed on the first trading day of the new calendar. European stocks traded higher but Asian names traded flat to negative on Monday. US markets remained shut on account of New year's holiday.    Indian stocks moved higher on Monday led by Metal/Infra stocks and heavyweights like RIL. Stocks started the day with some losses but reversed the course mid way to gain some strength on the back of strong economic data raising optimism on growth prospects of the Indian economy. Nifty closed almost 92 points higher and Sensex gained 327 points at close.  Markets may continue to consolidate ahead of key US data and presentation of Union Budget next month. Global central banks' outlook on inflation / rate action, Indian state elections outcome, Chinese COVID policy action remain key monitorables for CY 2023.   US stocks fell on Friday ending its worst year since 2008. Sticky inflation, aggressive rate action by FED and worries over slowing growth continued to weigh over investors mind. Dow fell 0.22%, S&P lost 0.25% and Nasdaq closed 0.11% lower.  USD index traded near multi-week low of 103.49, 10 year moved higher near 3.88%, Cboe vix moved higher near 21.67.  Crude futures gained almost 3% as USD index eased, WTI moved near 81, Brent near 86.  Indian stocks ended in red on the last trading day of 2022, stocks traded in a narrow range before ending down on Friday. Sensex lost nearly 300 points, Nifty gave back 85 points at close.  Markets may start to show some definitive trend as volumes turn normal post holiday season.   US markets rose on Thursday erasing previous day's losses  after the labour department reported an increase in jobless claims that were slightly higher than anticipated. Dow moved higher by 1.05%, S&P added 1.75% and Nasdaq added 2.59% in what can be termed as an abbreviated Santa Rally, turning Wall Street positive for the week.  USD index traded lower near 103.90, 10 year also turned lower near 3.83% and Cboe Vix dropped to 21.44.  Crude futures traded largely flat with small downside bias, WTI traded below 79, Brent near 82.  Indian stocks closed higher as final hour trade took indices out of the negative zone, December series expiry related volatility and year-end consideration took stocks higher on the penultimate day of 2022 year-end.  Wall Street sank on Wednesday extending year-end slide as worries over growth continued. Dow lost 1.10%, S&P dropped 1.20% and Nasdaq closed 1.35% lower. Apple and energy stocks took its toll on Dow and S&P respectively as the tech giant fell to its 52 week low and energy names fell as crude lost some ground.  USD index moved higher near 104.52, 10 year also continued its upward move near 3.89%, Cboe Vix closed up near 22.14.   Crude futures eased a bit on light trading as worries over Chinese COVID cases persisted, WTI eased near 78 and Brent near 83.  Indian indices closed near flat level amidst volatility owing to low volumes due to holiday season, stocks continued its rotational drive with Oil and Gas, Power and Fertilizer stocks gaining ground along with some positive momentum for IT names.   Indian stocks made a roaring comeback on Monday erasing a large part of Friday's losses as bulls made a strong comeback. Sensex gained 721 points and Nifty added 208 points at close. Mid cap index gained 2.30% after getting hammered on Friday. All the major sectoral indices except Pharma names saw good rebound with banking names leading the charge on Dalal Street. US markets remained shut due to Christmas holiday giving bulls a breather from worries of shape of things to come for a day.  Markets may continue to remain volatile on lower participation due to the holiday season. Participants may continue to watch for individual names for near term trade till the global news flows start to turn favorable and volatility reduces. Investors may continue to use the current uncertain period to build up long term portfolios.

  US stocks reversed its  previous day's gains on weak corporate results and worries over slowdown. Dow lost almost 1.05%, S&P lost 1.45% and Nasdaq gave back 2.18%.  USD index traded flat near 104.42, 10 year also moved in a narrow band near 3.69% and cboe vix jumped near 22.  Crude futures traded in narrow band taking a breather after a strong couple of days moves, WTI remained near 78, Brent just below 82.   Indian stocks traded lower on worries over surging COVID cases in China, Japan, South Korea. The pressure of weekly options expiry intensified selling towards the end of the day.   US stocks fell on Monday extending Friday's losses on fears of aggressive FED action pushing economy into recession. Dow fell 0.49%, S&P lost 0.90% and Nasdaq lost the most seeing a cut of 1.49%.   USD index eased a bit to trade near 104.62, 10 year moved higher near 3.59%, cboe vix closed lower near 22.42.  Crude futures gained some ground, WTI moved above 75, Brent traded above 80.  Indian stocks recorded their best daily gains in three weeks reversing a two day sell-off, consumer stocks along with auto names gained ground. Sensex gained close to 470 points and Nifty added 150 points over Friday's close.  Stocks may continue to hold promise despite of weak cues from global markets. Indices may continue to consolidate as cross currents of global weakness over local optimism restrict upside in benchmarks. Participants may continue to rotate positions to outperform the index.

US stocks turned volatile post inflation print that showed an increase on just 0.10% to 7.10%  against expectations on 0.30% rise, but stocks gave up large part of gains towards the mid day. Dow closed 0.30% higher giving up gains of 2.80% at one time during the day, Nasdaq also closed 1.01% higher from almost 3.50% gains intra day and S&P closed 0.73% higher again lost large part of intraday gains. Both USD index and 10 year came off sharply post inflation print, $ Index fell below 104 and 10 year traded below 3.50% on lower than expected inflation print. Cboe vix too declined below 23.  Crude futures continued to gain some more ground, WTI traded above 75, Brent above 80.  Indian stocks moved higher on Tuesday as banking names continued to lead higher and IT stocks recovered some lost ground. US stocks fell as stronger than expected ISM data fueled concerns that FED will continue raising rates longer. Dow dropped 1.40%, Nasdaq lost 1.93% and S&P closed 1.79% lower.  USD index moved higher near 105.30, 10 year also jumped near 3.58% and Cboe Vix moved above 20 to close near 20.75. Crude futures traded lower following strong US ISM data and stock market weakness that raised concerns over Fed's path over rates. WTI dropped near 77, Brent near 83, a cut of near 3.00% for both the benchmarks.  Indian stocks traded in a range moving in and out of flat line on mixed lead from global equity markets.   US stocks edged lower led by energy names that lost ground on Chinese COVID worries taking oil prices lower. Dow traded in an out of flat line to close with cuts of 0.13% , strength in Disney failed to offset losses in energy names, S&P lost 0.39% and Nasdaq closed 1.09% lower. USD index moved higher near 107.79, 10 year traded flat near 3.82% and cboe vix closed further down near 22.36.  Crude prices recovered from intraday losses in excess of 3% after Saudi denied OPEC+ plan to raise output, WTI traded above 80 and Brent just below 88.   US Markets posted a sharp rally on wednesday trading session and closed in green by breaking its three days loosing streak as Dowjones  and Nasdaq racks up gains upon cooling yields  where Nasdaq ended up by more than 2% whereas as Dowjones and S&P 500 ended up by more than 1.5% in the day . USD index cooled off little bit after making fresh hghs from the few days to trade at $109.53 at the end of the day. Crude futures continued to trade down as supply piles up and slow global growth is chipping away energy demand due to which US Crude Futures WTI and Brent Crude Futures ended down by more tan 5%in the day. US Stock Indices are on the backfoot amid higher yields and with soaring energy prices stoking inflationary concerns as tech jiant Nasdaq felled more than 2%  whereas Dowjones closed slightly negative on Thursday closing . US Crude Futures felled 1.6% ened at $102 per barrel whereas Brent felled 1.5% to $107.16 per barrel on thrusday closing . Indian Equity markets continuing it's negative bias since few days amid inflationary concerns and global economic crisis as both  Njfty50 and Sensex closed below 0.5% negative on Wednesday closing. US stock markets ended flat on Wednesday closing after gapdown in early trading session amid  never ending concerns of fed tapering,as Nasdaq & Dowjones closed 0.16% down . US Crude futures ended lower as WTI down 1.6% at $90.57 per barrel whereas brent down by 1.7% at $91.73 per barrel. Indian markets ended flat after inconstancy movements in the day amid Russia-Ukraine conflict as Nifty50 closed at 0.17% down whereas benchmark index Sensex closed at 0.25% down. US Stock markets ended in positive territory for the third consecutive day as Dowjones closed at 0.86% up whereas Nasdaq ended with 2% up as tech stocks,telecom stocks and base material stocks propelled indices higher. US dollar index futures closed 0.9% down at 95.55.Brent futures closed at 0.23% up by ending at $91.84 per barrel. Indian stock markets continued it's rising streak for the third consecutive day as major sectorial indices contributed to the markets by rising more than 1% in the day.   US Stock indices on Tuesday edged up as tech jiant  Nasdaq and dowjones ended with more than 1% up in a day. US Crude Futures felled 2% on Tuesday ,pausing it's rally for the second consecutive day, as West Texas Intermediate (WTI) settled down at $89.36 per barrel (down 2.2%),whereas Brent down by 2.1% which settled at $90.78 per barrel. Indian stock markets ended slightly on positive side amid unsavoury volatility in the day as Nifty50 swings 200points on either side which made intraday trades job hectic.Nifty50 closed with 0.31% up whereas Sensex ended up 0.33%  For Today's Trading Session watchout the sectors which are drawdowned from the past couple of days as they may give some gains in tthe day on Nifty50 side watchout 17300 as key resistance level for some uppish movement and 17200 to 17000 acts as strong supports on downside.

US Crude futures rally takes a pause  as it felled 1.1% on Monday after rallying for seven straight weeks .West Texas Intermediate (WTI) ended at $91.32 per barrel whereas brent ended at $92.64 amid Iran nuclear deal.   US stock indices closed on a positive territory which is counter intuitive to the early trade session where investors faced treacherous  backdrop of volatility driven by the fed announcements .
